As part of the concept phase of the TTDO-DFU-CoCo project, we set up a network (PRO-LIMB-NET e. V.). People who are at risk of developing a chronic wound (e.g. people with diabetes mellitus), already have a chronic wound or have already undergone bone and soft tissue reconstruction can come together in this network. Carers and relatives are also welcome to join the network. PRO-LIMB-NET e. V.  offers an opportunity for networking and exchange, so that those affected are not alone with their health problems and can share experiences with each other.

In addition, a patient advisory board is integrated within the patient network. Its function is to advise on scientific research projects relating to diabetes mellitus, the treatment of chronic wounds and/or limb preservation. In this way, patients can share their perspectives and realities with researchers, which leads to greater practical relevance in research projects. This participatory research approach has proven its worth in numerous study concepts in various specialist disciplines and, with the effective involvement of patients and their caregivers, has had a positive impact on key success parameters.

The Patient Advisory Board is a committee composed of patients and their families that incorporates the perspectives of patients, their families, and healthcare providers into research and care processes. It advises researchers and study teams with the goal of ensuring that studies are consistently patient-centered. As part of our network, the Patient Advisory Board supports preclinical and clinical projects—particularly in the field of limb reconstruction and preservation—throughout all phases of the research process: from planning and implementation to evaluation and the clear communication of results. In addition, the Advisory Board helps organize exchange forums, provides input to ensure that patient-relevant endpoints are considered, and serves as a point of contact for researchers as needed.
