Limb Innovation in Musculoskeletal Biology & REConstruction
A Collaborative Translational Research Platform for Extremity Reconstruction
LIMB-REC is an interdisciplinary translational research platform within Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery dedicated to advancing innovation in extremity reconstruction.
Our goal is to translate biological, technological, and health services research into meaningful clinical application. LIMB-REC thrives on constructive collaboration and the synergy of diverse perspectives. The platform brings together clinical expertise, preclinical scientific research, and the lived experience of patients, caregivers and families within a truly participatory research framework.
By integrating these perspectives, we aim to redefine reconstruction science and improve long-term functional outcomes for patients with complex extremity conditions.
Our Research Focus
LIMB-REC integrates expertise across:
• Molecular and cellular regeneration
• Bone and soft tissue reconstruction
• Implant and biomaterial research
• Health services research and patient-centered outcomes
• Patient, caregivers and family expertise in participatory research design
This integrative approach enables us to bridge fundamental science, clinical innovation, and real-world patient needs.
Leadership and mission
LIMB-REC was established in 2023 and is led by
Dr. med. Markus Laubach, Ph.D., MBA.
Department of Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery, Musculoskeletal University Center Munich (MUM), LMU University Hospital
LIMB-REC combines innovative expertise in biology, technology, and clinical reconstruction with the lived experience of patients, caregivers and families to restore function, reduce complications, and collaboratively rethink extremity reconstruction and limb preservation.
